Flopcast 610: Superchick Rabbithole

National Whatever Day involves dancing like a cuckoo; our 2024 health and fitness plan is mostly lo mein-based; the Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morning shows of the 1970s are now streaming (great news for Bay City Rollers fans like us); we somehow connect the Krofft shows to The Love Boat, the Snow Miser, and Chewbacca's creepy dad Itchy; and we finally share our New Year's Resolutions. Spoiler: They're a little stupid.

Show Notes

It's true! Almost all of the Krofft Saturday morning shows are now streaming on the Dove channel! Since their search function is lacking, here's a direct link to H.R. Pufnstuf. You can add Dove to your Amazon Prime account or subscribe directly; either way you get a free 7-day trial, and it's $4.99 a month after that.

Seen below with Turkey (left) and Flatbush, Superchick's styling in the first season of The Krofft Supershow bore a resemblance to that of Marie Osmond. The Osmonds, in fact, wrote the music for the manufactured band Kaptain Kool and the Kongs, and Sid & Marty famously produced The Donnie & Marie Show, which ran concurrently.

Debra Clinger has a significant body of work, including a starring role in the cult classic Midnight Madness (below, with David Naughton, Joel Kenney, and a very young Michael J. Fox). However, she lacks her own Wikipedia page. Her family band, The Clingers (aka The Clinger Sisters) has an article, but there was no mention of Debra's work as Superchick. Enter the Mayor! With a few strategic edits, the Krofft link was made. Now we just have to fill in the background on Turkey!

Debra's appearance on The Love Boat with Snow Miser (Dick Shawn) happened in Season 4, Episodes 25 and 26 (and that bright red shirt is too much). The entire series is available on Paramount Plus!
